Peer Specialist Core Training
The Texas Peer Specialist Core Training is a 19.5-hour foundational course developed by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). It is the required first step for anyone with lived experience who wants to become a certified Mental Health Peer Specialist or Recovery Support Peer Specialist in Texas. This training introduces core concepts of peer support, recovery principles, and the role of the peer specialist across behavioral health settings. All individuals pursuing peer specialist certification must complete this training before advancing to a track-specific course.
