PeerHubTX Training Opportunities
Find upcoming Peer Specialist and Family Partner training opportunities across Texas by exploring our training calendar below!
PeerHubTX calendar events are separated into categories by training type: CEU training, Certified Family Partner (CFP) training, Peer Specialist Core training, Peer Specialist Supplemental (MHPS and RSPS) training, as well as Peer Specialist Supervisor (PSS) training.
Continuing Education Unit (CEU)
Continuing Education Unit (CEU) training helps certified Peer Specialists, Peer Specialist Supervisors, and Family Partners enhance their knowledge and stay current in their field. The Texas Certification Board (TCB) requires a set number of CEU hours every two years to maintain active certification, so these courses focus on reinforcing core concepts and strengthening the skills essential for each credential.
These CEU courses are separate from other training options and are specifically designed to meet TCB’s continuing education requirements, ensuring your certification remains active and up to date.
Certified Family Partner (CFP)
The Family Partner (CFP) Certification Training is a 5-day virtual course conducted via Zoom. If you are already working as a family partner at an LMHA, you have one year from the start of your employment to complete this training.
The training is an intense, interactive, and fun-filled week spent exploring learning objectives relevant to the family partner role to prepare participants for the Certification Exam, which takes place on Day 5 of training. Completing this training and passing the final Certification Exam is required to apply to become a Certified Family Partner with the Texas Certification Board (TCB).
Peer Specialist Core training
The Peer Specialist Core training is a prerequisite to both the Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS) and Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS) Supplemental Training. You must complete this training prior to registering for supplemental training.
This 3-day training is intended for individuals who have lived experience with mental health challenges and/or substance use disorders and wish to learn how to use their personal experiences to help others be successful in their recovery. This training will provide learners with the foundations of peer support and an understanding of what the role and functions of a Peer Specialist are. Core training is offered both in person and virtually.
Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS)
After completing the Peer Specialist Core training, this supplemental training is the 2nd training required by the Texas Certification Board (TCB) for individuals seeking to obtain the Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS) certification, where they will specialize in supporting people experiencing mental health challenges. This 5-day training consists of 46 hours of instruction, including instructor-led lessons and self-study.
Students must have completed Peer Specialist Core training and received a completion certificate prior to enrolling
Peer Specialist Supervisor (PSS)
This 2-day training meets the Texas Certification Board (TCB) requirements for people seeking the Peer Specialist Supervisor Certification and who supervise Mental Health Peer Specialists (MHPS) or Recovery Support Peer Specialists (RSPS).
The PSS Certification training focuses on role clarity, providing recovery-oriented support, ethical considerations for peer specialists, and leadership. Successful completion of the training and a knowledge check are required to apply to become certified as a PSS through TCB.
Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS)
After completing the Peer Specialist Core training, this supplemental training is the 2nd training required by the Texas Certification Board (TCB) for individuals seeking to obtain the Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS) certification, where they will specialize in supporting people experiencing substance use challenges. This 5-day training consists of 46 hours of instruction, including instructor-led lessons and self-study.
